Jomon-sugi ― 2010/11/21

We got on a bus that stopped in front of our hotel at 4:30 am. When
we arrived at the relay point, many mountain climbers had already arrived.
We heard that over 500 climbers had went into the mountain from
Arakawa-guchi which is the most popular starting point of the trail that
goes up to Jomon-sugi.

We had to walk in a line for the first half of the trail. Guided tours
sometimes stopped to talk.

The trail was getting the morning sunlight and was really beautiful.

Wilson-kabu is said the biggest tree stump in Yakushima. If you sit
down in a certain place inside of it, you can take a pretty photo.

Until Jomon-sugi was discovered, Daio-sugi was said to be
the biggest Yakusugi.

It is said that Jomon-sugi is 7200 years old. I felt very small compared to it.

We saw a yakushika (a deer native to Yakusima) on our way back.
At that time, we thought we were very lucky to have seen it. Also,
a yakuzaru (a monkey) threatened me from a bush! I may have
entered its territory.

In the morning, I was not able to take photos when I wanted to because
of the crowds. However, I enjoyed taking photos in the afternoon.

The toilet was very clean and nice at the starting point, but I did not
notice that in the morning because it was dark.
