The Oze area extends over four prefectures: Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, and Niigata. It was my first visit to Oze.

We went to Oshimizu in Gunma Prefecture. It took about four hours by bus to get there from Shinjuku.

As soon as we left Oshimizu, we were not able to use our mobile phones. We walked on a gravel road to the Ichinose rest area. I heard that only cars for business use could use the road.

We walked on a mountain trail from Ichinose. There were some wooden causeways. They made me feel that I had reached Oze at last, and the alpines were refreshing.

After we went over the next pass, Sanpei-toge, we sometimes looked down at Lake Ozenuma, where we were going to stay the night, which was a great help for us as we were tired.

There were two rails of wooden causeways at the main areas in Oze, and they had a rule to keep to the right, but I felt the rule was not followed.

I had wanted to see Nikko-kisuge, and they were in bloom. However, they said that the best season was over and that there had not been as many this season.

We stayed at Chozo-goya, which looked like an old elementary school. There was a bathroom in the mountain cottage, and I was very thankful for it. I hoped that this old cottage would last for a long time. Also, there was a wood-burning stove at the lounge. Even though it was July, I warmed myself by the fire because the temperature was 10 degrees and cooler than it was in the city.
