Winterreise ― 2012/02/12
I went to a recital held by our chorus teacher.
The title was “Winterreise,” translated as “Winter Journey” in English, famous Schubert lieder. The whole of this collection of songs are sung by a man who has a broken heart. He travels feeling a sense of alienation and hopeless. Today’s singer was a woman, but it was not strange. She sang all the songs from memory. I thought her power of concentration was amazing, and the pianist Mr. Spenser was great. Also the audience was much focused. The players and audience acted as one, and it was an excellent concert.
